Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about MacroMonitor

What is the MacroMonitor?

The UCL MacroMonitor is a public dashboard for real-time information about the UK economy. Launched in June 2026, it provides real-time nowcast for UK GDP growth and inflation. The GDP nowcast are updated weekly to reflect the latest data and news releases. The inflation nowcast is updated monthly to reflect the latest CPI data released by the ONS.

Why provide these forecasts?

Our aim is to provide reliable and timely signals for the UK economy for policymakers, business, academics, and the media. While official GDP and inflation data takes months to finalise, decisionmakers cannot afford to wait. This information mirrors regular updates provided by central banks and statistical agencies in other countries. Unlike existing third-party indicators, the MacroMonitor is provided free of charge in the hope that this information helps to inform and stimulate public economic and policy debates and assists decisionmakers in business and policy.

Who are we?

We are a small team of researchers in the Department of Economics at University College London. The Project Lead is Daniel Lewis, supported by Co-Leads Raffaella Giacomini and Lars Nesheim. The MacroMonitor is made possible by the hard work of its Ph.D. analysts, Corrado Calemma, Tiziano M. Di Biase, Marco Fontanesi, and Thomas Lazarowicz.
